GSC - Feature Match: Championship Round - Gage Murray V. Ben Mcdowell

Gage Murray placed sixth coming into the Championship today. After defeating the December Champion – Leonard Ludwig and his Inzektor Deck, then defeating Kevin Stessney and his Agent deck. Gage now moves on to the Finals with his Dino Rabbit Deck. Ben McDowell is participating in his first Championship Tournament today, and had a rough start. He had to take on Dustin Domdera in a tie-breaker match to decide who would enter the Championship in eighth place. He then moved on to defeat Uy Tu and his Mono Mermail deck. Ben is piloting a Watt deck with no Side Deck, and no Extra Deck. Dispite this, both he and his opponent have not had to go into a Game 3 all day today. This is it the champion is about to be crowned!

Gage wins the die roll and plays first. He starts the duel off with Rescue Rabbit! Immediately he summons two Kabzauls from his deck, and overlays them into Evolzar Laggia! He places four cards into his Spell and Trap card Zone and pases his turn. Ben activates Pot of Duality, revealing Wattcobra, Mystical Space Typhoon and Fiendish Chain. He chooses the Fiendish Chain, adds it to his hand and returns the other cards to his deck. He sets a monster face-down, and sets Five Cards Face down in his Spell and Trap Card Zone!

Gage summons Kabzauls from his hand and has it attack Ben’s set monster – Wattdragonfly! Wat Dragonfly’s effect activates and allows Ben to special summon another Wattdragonfly in defense position, which Evolzar Laggia attacks over, and Ben Special Summons Wattcobra from his deck. Gage passes his turn.

Ben attacks Gage directly with Wattcobra, but Gage responds with Fiendish Chain to prevent it from attacking, and Ben responds with Solemn Judgment, giving up half his Life Points in hopes to prevent Fiendish Chain, but that wasn’t going to happen! Gage also activates Solemn Judgment, giving up half his life points to prevent Wattcobra from inflicting damage! Ben sets a card and passes his turn.

Life Points: Ben: 4000/Gage:4000

Gage starts his turn and immediately enters the Battle Phase, and Ben responds with Threatening Roar! Gage’s response is to detatch both of Evolzar Laggia’s Xyz Material Monsters to negate the Threatening Roar, but Ben chains to this with his set Fiendish Chain, preventing Laggia’s negation effect from correctly resolving!

Ben summons Wattpeasant, and has it attack Gage directly, allowing him to activate it’s effect, but instead of targeting one of Gage’s Monsters, Ben targets his own WattCobra, to free it from the effects of Fiendish Chain when it returns to the field during the End Phase!

Life Points: Ben:4000/Gage:3000

Ben passes his turn, and Wattcobra returns to the field in defense position.

Turn 6- Ben
Gage draws, and during the Standby Phase activates a Mystical Space Typhoon from his hand to destroy Ben’s set Photon Lead. Then he activates a set Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Ben’s set Huge Revolution is Over! Thunder Se horse – Wattcobras

Gage summons Jurrac Guiaba from his hand and overlays it with Kabzauls to Xyz Summon another Evolzar Laggia. He flip summons his set Spirit Reaper and begins his Battle Phase. He attacks directly with both monsters, and with Spirit Reaper’s effect he
Forces Ben to discard one of his Wattcobras.

(At this point I Calculated ben to have no life Points left, but apparently there had been a miscalculation of Life points at one point, and they continued play. )

Ben summons Wattcobra and it is negated by Evolzar Laggia. He sets a card face-down and Gage has Evolzar Laggie attack directly. Ben responds with Mirror Force, but Gage had a Forbidden Lance to prevent it from being destroyed and take Ben’s Life Points to zero on their Calculations. Gage wins Game 1!

Game Two:

Ben begins Game 2, and sets two spell or trap cards and passes his turn. Gage summons Doomcaliber Knight and attacks Ben directly for 1900! He sets two cards face-down and ends his turn.

Life Points: Ben: 6100/Gage: 8000

With Wattcobra’s effect Ben adds Wattgiraffe to his hand from his deck, and passes his turn. Gage activates Trap Stun during the Standby Phase of his turn, but Ben chains his set Wabboku to it. Gage continues with his own copy of Dark Hole to get rid of Wattcobra, and then summons Rescue Rabbit from his hand. Ben sets one card face-down and passes his turn. Gage does the same. Ben summons wattgiraffe and attacks directly with it, preventing Gage from activating card effects until the End Phase, and Ben Ends his turn after the attack.

Gage summons Sabersaurus and flip summons his set Kabzauls. He overlays both his dinosaurs to Xyz Summon Evolzar Laggia! He has Dolka attack, and Ben activates his set Mirror Force! Gage negates it’s activation by detatching both of Laggia’s Xyz Materials and destroys Wattgiraffe!

Life Points: Ben: 5000/Gage: 5800

Next Gage attacks directly with Evolzar Laggia before ending his turn.

Life Points: Ben: 2600/Gage: 5800

Ben sets two cards in his Spell and Trap Card Zone and passes his turn. Gage draws and activates Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Ben’s set Threatening Roar, which Ben responds with to prevent Gage from attacking this turn. Gage passes his turn. Ben activates Thunder Sea Horses' effect, and Gage detaches a Kabzauls from Evolzar Dolkka to negate, but Ben was ready with a Fiendish Chain to negate Dolkka’s effect. Ben adds two Wattgiraffes from his deck to his hand. He summons a Wattcobra and attacks directly with it. Using Wattcobra’s effect, Ben adds another Wattcobra from his deck to his hand, then sets two spell or trap cards before ending his turn.

Life Points: Ben: 2600/Gage: 4800

Gage draws and then flip summons his set Sabersaurus and then Normal Summons Doomcaliber Knight from his hand. He declares an attack with Sabersaurus, and Ben activates Wabboku to prevent damage to his monsters and life points! Gage passes his turn. Ben activates his last Thunder Sea Horse’s effect, and Doomcaliber Knight tributes itself and negates it.

Ben then summons Wattgiraffe and Gage responds with Torrential Tribute to destroy all of his own monsters, and Ben’s wattgiraffe! Ben plays Monster Reborn to revive his Wattcobra, and as it attack Gage directly!

Life Points: Ben: 2600/Gage: 3800

With Wattcobra’s effect, Ben adds Wattdragonfly from his deck to his hand. Ben passes his turn. Gage Summons Tour Guide From the Underworld from his hand, and summons a second Tour Guide From his deck. Ben does some calculations in his head, and offers Gage a hand shake and says “Good Game!”

What Ben thought was going to happen was Gage was going to Xyz Summon Leviar The Sea Dragon, use It’s effect to Special Summon Rescue Rabbit from his banished zone, what Ben didn’t realize until he overheard it, was that Gage had already gone into all of his normal monsters! He said he was probably going to go into Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction or Wind-Up Zenmaines!

And with that Gage wins the Store Championship! Using his Dinorabbit Deck Gage is able to defeat Ben’s Wattdeck, and claim victory! Congratulations to Gage Murray!

GCS - Feature Match - Round 1 - Gage Murray V. Leonard Ludwig

Today the champion from December enters his last Championship tournament for quite a while. Leonard Ludwig will be leaving us to join the Navy next month, and will be unable to compete in next month’s championship tournament. Last month as defending champion, Leonard was defeated in the first round running his Machina Gadget Deck by Andre Montalvo and his Lightsworn Deck. This month he pushed his way into the Top 8 finishing overall in 3rd place. He is running his favorite deck, Inzektor. His opponent is Gage Murray, who placed overall in sixth place. Last month Gage placed second in the Championship Tournament with his Dino Rabbit deck, and today he plans to win with the same exact deck.

After a die roll, it is decided that Leo will play first. He starts off with Foolish Burial to send his Inzektor Hornet to the graveyard. He then summons Card Car D, and sets a card face-down. He activates Card Car D’s effect to draw two cards from his deck and passes his turn.

Gage normal summons Tour Guide From The Underworld from his hand, and Leo responds to the summons by discarding Effect Veiler to prevent Gage from summoning. Gage sets three cards face-down and ends his turn.

Leo starts off his turn with Inzektor Centipede, only to meet Gage’s Fiendish Chain! He activates Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber from his hand, equipping it to the Centipede and passes his turn. Gage summons Night Assailant from his hand, and overlays it with Tour Guide From The Underworld to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines in defense position. He then flips his set Macro Cosmos face-up on the field, and activates Dark Hole.

Macro Cosmos prevents Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber from allowing Leonard to add cards back to his hand, while Gage detaches his Night Assailant from Zenmaines to prevent it’s distribution. Gage moves to the End Phase, and uses Zenmaine’s effect to destroy Leonard’s set Threatening Roar!

Leonard summons Thunder King Rai-Oh, and sets two spell or trap cards and passes to Gage who sets one backrow and returns play to Leonard. Leonard summons Inzektor Centipede, only to find a Solemn Warning waiting for him!

Life Points: Leonard: 8000/Gage:6000

With no other plays, Leonard passes his turn. Gage turns Wind-Up Zenmaines to Attack Position, and normal summons Kabzauls. He has Kabzauls attack Thunder King Rai-Oh and responds to the attack with his own Book of Moon to turn Thunder King Rai-Oh to face-down defense position, allowing Kabzauls to attack over it. Wind-Up Zenmaines proceeds to attack Leo directly!

Life Points: Leonard: 6500/Gage: 6000

Leonard normal summons Inzektor Ladybug, but Gage has an answer again. This time it is Composuary Evacuation Device to return Inzektor Ladybug to Leo’s hand! Leo passes, and Gage attacks directly with both of his monsters!

Life Points: Leonard: 3300/Gage: 6000

Gage sets a spell or trap card and passes his turn over. Leonard summons Inzektor Ladybug, and for the third turn in a row Gage has a response to the summon. His response this time is Fiendish Chain, preventing Leo from activating it’s effect to equip the Inzektor Hornet in his Graveyard. Leo activates the Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber in his hand to boost Ladybug’s attack, but next activates Heavy Storm! Gage with no response loses his Fiendish Chain and Macro Cosmos, and Leo is able to add Inzektor Hornet back to his hand with the effect of Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber!

Leo equips the Ladybug on his field with the Inzektor Hornet in his hand, and uses it’s effect to send Kabzauls to the graveyard! He is still unable to get over Wind-Up Zenmaines and passes his turn. Gage uses the Zenmaines to attack over Ladybug, and sets a card to end his turn.

Life Points – Leonard – 2300/Gage: 6000

Leonard sets a monster from his hand, and passes his turn. Gage summons Jurrac Guiaba from his hand, and when he attempts to leave Main Phase 1, Leonard activates Effect Veiler targeting Jurac Guiaba! Gage is not stopped by this move and has his Guiaba attack over Leo’s set Inzektor Ladybug, and Wind-Up Zenmaines attack directly once again!

Life Points – Leonard: 800/Gage: 6000

Leonard draws and normal summons Cardcar D. He activates it’s effect and draws two cards from his deck. Once he sees his draws he immediately concedes the match. Gage wins the first game of the round due to the extensive back row and preventing Leo from using his Inzektor Monster’s effects! After an intense three minutes of siding it is time for the second game!

Leo starts game two off by setting a monster face-down and a set spell or trap card. Then he activates Messenger of Peace to prevent Gage from being able to attack with his normal monsters and Xyz monsters.

Gage sets two spell or trap cards face-down and normal summons Doomcaliber Knight, passing his turn since he is unable to attack. Leo decides to leave Messenger of Peace on the field by paying 100 life points, and sets a card face-down. He then passes his turn.

Life Points: Leonard: 7900/Gage: 8000

Gage sets a monster and a spell and trap card and passes his turn. Leonard pays the cost of Messenger of Peace and passes his turn. Gage sets a spell or trap card and passes his turn. Leonard pays the cost of Messenger of Peace, sets a monster and returns play to Gage.

Life Points: Leonard: 7700/Gage: 8000

Gage flip summons Kabzauls and overlays it and Doomcaliber Knight to Xyz Summon Gagaga Cowboy in defense position. He detaches his Kabzauls to activate its defense position effect and inflict 800 points of damage to Leo’s life points. He summons Doomcaliber Knight, and passes his turn. Leonard pays the cost for Messenger of Peace when he starts his turn.

Life Points: Leonard: 6800/Gage: 8000

However paying the cost was only a backup strategy if his next move failed (which I am assuming he figured it would). He activates Heavy Storm, and to the surprise of working successfully, destroying Gage’s set Macro Cosmos, Solemn Warning, and both his Fiendish Chains. Leo lost his Messenger of Peace, Royal Decree, and Call of The Haunted. Leo next sets a card to his back row and passes his turn.

Gage laughs when he draws his next card and immediately summons it: Banisher of The Radiance. He has it attack Leo’s set monster, which is revealed to be Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, who targets Banisher of The Radiance, but it is negated by Doomcaliber Knight. During Main Phase 2, Gage activates Gagaga Magician’s effect to inflict 800 more damage to Leonard, and passes his turn.

Leonard activates Dark Hole to destroy all monsters on the field, including the set Spirit Reaper. He passes his turn after this. Gage sets two back row cards and a monster as well. Leonard sets a spell or trap card and passes back. Gage does the same, and Leo does it one more time after this! Gage draws and passes his turn.

Leo summons Inzektor Centipede after turns of not doing anything, but now has to take on Gage’s extensive Back Row. Gage responds with Macro Cosmos, and Leo activates Centipede’s effect to equip it with an Inzektor Ladybug in his hand.

Next he activates his set Royal Decree to block Macro Cosmos effects, but Gage was ready with Dust Tornado to stop and destroy Royal Decree before it could resolve! Leo proceeds and attacks with his Inzektor Centipede on Gage’s set monster, which is Night Assailant. It flips and destroys the Centipede. Leo passes his turn.

Leonard Normal Summons Tour Guide from the Underworld, and uses it to Special Summon another Tour Guide from the Underworld from his deck. He overlays them to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines in attack position. When he enters the Battle Phase, Leo responds with Threatening Roar.

Leo draws and passes his turn. Gage summons Sabersaurus from his hand. He has his Wind-Up Zenmaines attack Leo directly, but Leo responds with Call of The Haunted, targeting the Spirit Reaper in his Graveyard, immediately self-destructing by its own effect, leaving Wind-Up Zenmaines to attack directly again!

Life Points: Leonard: 5100/Gage: 8000

Leo’s weird play was not in vein, he did it to clear his field and he activates the effect of Gorz The Emissary of Darkness, and summons it from his hand, and special summons an Emissary of Darkness Token in defense position with 1500 ATK and DEF.

Gage has his Sabersaurus attack The Emissary of Darkness Token and destroys it. Leo draws and has his Gorz attack Sabersaurs, and finally damages Gage’s Life Points!

Life Points: Leonard: 5100/Gage: 7200

Gage attacks Gorz with Wind-Up Zenmaines, detaching a Tour Guide from it to prevent destruction, but inflicting 1200 to his life points. He sets a spell or trap card down, and during the End Phase, he uses Wind-Up Zenmaines’ effect to destroy Gorz The Emissary of Darkness!

Life Points: Leonard: 5100/Gage: 6000

Leo activates Pot of Duality, revealing Card Car D, Inzektor Hornet, and One Day of Peace. He chooses the One Day of Peace, and immediately activates it. Both players draw a card, and Leo ends his turn.

Gage summons Kabzauls and sets a spell or trap card and passes his turn. Leo draws and summons Inzektor Dragonfly to his field, and attaches a Inzektor Ladybug from his hand.

He activates Mystical Space Typhoon targeting Gage’s Macro Cosmos, but Gage responds with a second Macro Cosmos to replace the one Leonard destroyed. Leonard unable to get rid of this problem equips Dragonfly with Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber, increasing her ATK to 2300. He attacks and destroys Kabzauls and ends his turn.

Life Points: Leonard: 5100/Gage: 5500

Gage activates Dark Hole to get rid of Inzektor Dragonfly, and detaches a Tour Guide from The Underworld to protect Windup Zenmaines. Gage sets two card face-down. He has Wind-Up Zenmaines attack directly, and during the End Phases destroys his set Heavy Storm with Wind-Up Zenmaines’ effect.

Gage draws and activates Dimensional Fissure to prevent Leonard from sending cards to the graveyard, even if Macro Cosmos is eventually destroyed! Leo draws and has Inzektor Centipede attack Gage directly, however this time Gage responds with Book of Moon to flip it face-down!

Gage uses Monster Reborn to revive his Banisher of The Radiance, and attack the face-down Inzektor Centipede. During the Damage Step, Leo responds with Forbidden Lance to lower Banisher of the Radiance’s ATK to 800, less then Centipede’s DEF of 1200! This attack finally gives Leo the lead in Life Points!

Life Points: Leonard: 3600/Gage: 3400

Leo summons Thunder King Rai-Oh, and has it attack Banisher of The Radiance, then switching Inzektor Centipede to Attack Position to complete turn number forty! Gage sets a monster, and passes his turn to Leo. Inzektor Centipede attacks Gage’s Set Spirit Reaper! Unable to destroy it in battle, Leo sets a spell or trap card and ends his turn. Leo activates Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber and equips it to Inzektor Giga-Mantis, but Gage uses Mystical Space Typhoon on Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber to destroy it, and banish it!

Gage normal summons Rescue Rabbit from his hand, and then flip summons a second Rescue Rabbit! He overlays the two Rescue Rabbits to Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia! He has it run over Inzektor Giga-Mantis, and passes his turn.

Life Points: Leonard: 3200/Gage: 2900

Leonard sets a monster and a back row and passes his turn. Gage draws and also sets a card face down. Leonard draws, now with three cards in his deck. He activates Pot of Duality to reveal his final three cards – Foolish Burial, Inzektor Horney, and Raigeki Break! He chooses the Raigeki Break, and sets it face-down to end his turn.

Gage has Utopia attack Leo’s set monster, which is Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter! It destroys Utopia, but forces Leo to send the remaining two cards in his deck to the Graveyard!

Jokingly Leo activates his set Raigeki Break, and Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Spirit Reaper and Gage’s set Starlight Road, knowing he would lose during his next draw phase! Gage pases his turn, and after fifty-eight turns, Leo is defeated!
