Corey Shehl starting in third place, will take on Dustin
Domdera, who is in seventh place. Yesterday at the final tournament of the
month, Dustin won his spot moving from ninth place to sixth by placing in the
Top 2, while Corey had his spot secured for many weeks at this point. Corey
Shehl will be playing his Chaos Dragon deck, while Dustin plays an Inzektor
deck.
Game One
The two players rulled a six-sided die to decide who will go
first, and Dustin wins the roll. Dustin decides to play first.
Dustin starts his turn and decides to just set a monster
card and passes turn to Corey.
Corey starts his turn off by summoning Card Trooper, and
activating his effect, sending the top three cards from his deck to the
graveyard. The three cards sent to the graveyard were Honest, Treacherous Trap
Hole, and Tour Guide From The Underworld.
Corey has Card Trooper attack Dustin’s set monster, which is
revealed to be Spirit Reaper! No monsters are destroyed, and Corey passes his
turn.
Dustin starts his turn off by summoning a Card Trooper of
his own! He activates it’s effect sending the top three cards of his deck to
the graveyard, which were Mystical Space Typhoon, Torrential Tribute, and
effect Veiler. He then overlays Card Trooper with Spirit Reaper to summon
Number 17: Leviathan Dragon!
Dustin detaches Spirit Reaper from Number 17: Leviathan
Dragon to activate it’s effect, and increase it’s attack power to 2500! He then
drops Black Luster Solider – Envoy From The Beginning from his hand, and
banishes Spirit Reaper and Effect Veiler.
Corey quickly responds to the summon of Black Luster Solider
by discarding Effect Veiler from his hand, and disables it’s effects!
Dustin enters his Battle Phase, and has Black Luster Solider
declare an attack on Corey’s attack positon Card Trooper! Destroying it, along
with 2600 of Corey’s Life Points.
Life Points: Corey: 5400/Dustin: 8000
Dustin continues his assault with Number 17: Leviathan
Dragon, and attacks Corey Directly for 2500!
Life Points: Corey: 2900/Dustin: 8000
He concludes his turn by setting a Spell or Trap Card in the
backrow.
Corey starts his second turn by activating Mystical Space
Typhoon, targeting Dustin’s Set card, which was a bluffed Heavy Storm!
Corey then banishes Tour Guide From The Underworld and
Honest from his graveyard to summon Chaos Sorcerer in Defense Position! He
quickly uses it’s effect to target Black Luster Solider – Envoy of the
Beginning, and banish it from the game.
He then sets a monster in defense position, and ends his
turn.
Dustin starts his turn by having Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
attack Chaos Sorcerer, and destroy it! Dustin ends his turn after this play.
Corey draws from his deck, sets a monster in defense, and
passes his turn.
Dustin follows suit, and sets a card in the backrow and also
passes. Corey continues the trend and sets a card in his back row and ends his
turn.
Dustin ends the passing of turns and activates Pot of
Duality. He reveals Sangan, Threatenin Roag, and Inzektor Sword - Zektkaliber.
He selects Sangan and shuffles the rest back into his deck.
He summons the Sangan, and moves into the Battle Phase. He
has Number 17: Leviathan Dragon attack Corey’s set monster, which is revealed
to be Eclipise Wyvren! Corey use’s Wyvren’s effect to banish Red-Eyes Darkness
Metal Dragon from his deck.
Dustin then has Sangan attack Corey Directly for 1000 life
points!
Life Points: Dustin: 8000/Corey: 1900
Dustin, fearing being ran over by a bigger monster and
activates Number 17: Leviathan Dragon’s effect, increasing his attack power to
3000, however he will be unable to attack directly in future turns.
Corey summons Light Pulsar Dragon from his hand by banishing
Chaos Sorcerer and Eclipse Wyvren from his graveyard in defense positon. He
then uses Eclipse Wyvren’s effect to add Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to his
hand after being banished by it’s effect last turn!
Corey then sets a monster in defense position, and ends his
turn.
Dustin Activates Pot of Duality again this turn, revealing
Tour Guide From The Underworld, Inzektor Centipied, and Inzektor Giga Mantis.
He chooses Tour Guide From The Under World and shuffles the others back into
his deck.
Dustin askes Corey is he has any DARK dragon monsters in his
graveyard, when he says he does not, he summons Inzektor Centipied, and has it
attack Light Pulsar Dragon, destroying it.
Number 17: Levianthan Dragon attacks next, destroying
Corey’s set Maxx “C” and Sangan continues to attack directly, lowering Corey
Shehl to a low 900 Life Points. He cannot take another hit from Sangan!
Life Points: Corey: 900/Dustin: 8000
Corey, after taking Damage does have a response left! He
drops his Tragodia from his hand in defense position, hoping to turn the game
around next turn! Dustin passes his turn.
Corey starts his turn by summoning his second Card Trooper,
and activating his effect, sending three cards to the graveyard: Night
Assailant, Lyla Lightsworn Sorceress, and Tour Guide From The Underworld.
Corey then activates Tragodia’s Effect, targeting his Level
3 Night Assailant in his graveyard to make it level 3 as well, however Dustin
did not want Corey to Xyz Summon, and discard Effect Veiler from his hand to
negate the effect of Tragodia!
With this play, Corey accepts the loss, giving Dustin the
first win.
Game 2:
Corey Shehl starts off in Game 2, and summon Tour Guide From
the Underworld from his hand. He uses it’s effect to summon Sangan in defense
position. With that he ends his turn.
Dustin starts his turn by setting two cards to his back row
and ends his turn.
Corey starts his turn by summoning Card Trooper, and Dustin
respond to the summon by activating Gozen Match. Corey decides to keep Earth
Monsters, and sends Sangan and Tour Guide From The Underworld To the Graveyard.
Corey activates Sangan’s effect, and chooses Effect Veiler
from his deck. He then activates Card Trooper’s effect and sends Dark Hole,
Solar Recharge, and Maxx “C” to the graveyard.
Corey Shehl enters his Battle Phase and declares a direct
attack with Card Trooper.
Life Points: Corey: 8000/Dustin: 6100
Corey ends his turn by setting a face-down Spell or Trap
Card.
Dustin surprises Corey by starting his turn off by
discarding Electric Virus from his hand, and targets Card Trooper! Corey’s
response was “Wait that can target Machines too!”
Dustin takes control of the Card Trooper, and activates it’s
effect, sending Spirit Reaper, Sangan, and Foolish Burial to the graveyard.
Card Trooper then attacks Corey directly, evening the score.
Dustin sets a card to the back row, and ends his turn.
Life Points: Dustin: 6100/Corey: 6100
Card Trooper returns back to it’s original owner, and Corey
begins his turn.
He switchs Card Trooper to defense position, and sets
another monster in defense position. He then passes his turn.
Dustin simply passes his turn, and Corey begins his turn by
activating Mystical Space Typhoon, targeting Dustin’s Gozen Match! He then Flip
Summons Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter to target one of Dustin’s set Spell or Trap
Cards, which was Call of The Haunted.
Dustin Chains Call of The Haunted to Special Summon Sangan
to the field, which is then destroyed when Call of The Haunted is destroyed by
Ryko’s effect. Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter’s effect resolves, and Corey sends the
top three cards from his deck to the graveyard which were Lyla The Lightsworn
Sorceress, and two copies of D.D. Crow!
Dustin then resolves Sangan’s effect, adding Inzektor Hornet
to his hand from his deck.
Corey continues his turn by Special Summoning Light Pulsar Dragon
from his hand by banishing Lyla Lightsworn Sorceress and Sangan from his
Graveyard. He then summons Tour Guide From the Underworld, and activates it’s
effect to Special Summon Night Assailant! Only there is no Night Assailant in
his deck, forgetting he sided it out between the first two games.
Corey makes due with the situation, and overlays Card
Trooper and Tour Guide From The Underworld to Xyz Summon Leviar, The Sea
Dragon. He then detatches Card Trooper from Leviar The Sea Dragon to Special
Summon his banished Sangan.
When he declares the start of his Battle Phase, Dustin
responds with his set Trap Card, Threatening Roar, preventing Corey’s monsters
from attacking this turn. Corey ends his turn.
Dustin summons Thunder King Rai-Oh and has it attack Sangan.
Not only does it destroy Sangan, inflict damage to Corey’s life points, but it
also prevents Sangan from activating it’s effect to get Corey another monster.
Life Points: Dustin: 6100/Corey: 5200
Dustin moves on to Main Phase 1, and activates Allure of
Darkness, drawing two cards from his deck, and he banishes Inzektor Ladybug
from his hand. He passes his turn.
Corey tributes his Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter in order to
Tribute Summon his Darkflare Dragon from his hand. He activates it’s effect,
discarding Eclipse Wyvren and banishing Spirit Reaper from Dustin’s graveyard.
Using Eclipse Wyvren’s effect, he banishes another Darkflare Dragon from his
deck.
Corey next activates the effect of Leviar The Sea Dragon by
detatching his Tour Guide From the Underworld to target Dustin’s banished
Spirit Reaper. Dustin won’t let this happen, and discards his Effect Veiler
from his hand to negate Leviar’s effect.
Corey has his Light Pulsar Dragon attack Dustin’s Thunder
King Rai-Oh, inflicting 600 points of damage to Dustin’s Life points.
Life Points – Dustin- 5500/Corey- 5200
Leviar The Sea Dragon attacks Dustin’s Life points directly,
followed by a direct attack from Darkflare Dragon for 4200 total!
Life Points – Dustin- 1300/Corey: 5200
Corey inflicts a total of 4800 damage to Dustin’s life
points this turn with only 3 attacks, with that he passes his turn to Dustin.
Dustin summons his Inzektor Centipide from his hand, and
activates his effect to attach Inzektor Hornet from his hand.
Once the effect resolves, Corey discards the Effect Veiler
in his hand to negate the effect of Inzektor Centipide, knocking Inzektor
Hornet off of it, before he can activate Inzektor Hornet’s effect.
Dustin follows up with two copies of Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber
attached to his Inzektor Centipiede.
Dustin’s Inzektor Centipied now has a total of 3200 Attack
points, and he has it attack Light Pulsar Dragon!
However, Corey has different plans, and discards his Honest
in his hand, to increase Light Pulsar Dragon’s attack to 5700, so when the
battle ended, Dustin’s life points had dropped to 0.
Corey wins Game 2, and is back in the game, moving on to
game 3, it is important to keep up the score or go home with nothing!
Game 3:
Dustin starts off game three, drawing his hand and sets one
monster and one back row and passes his turn.
Corey begins his first turn with Mystical Space Typhoon,
targeting Dustin’s set Spell or Trap Card, which was Call of The Haunted. Corey
sets a monster and passes his turn.
Dustin summons Inzektor Centipide and uses it’s effect to attach Inzektor Hopper from his hand. He uses Inzektor Hopper’s effect to allow Inzektor Centipide to attack directly this turn, and also to activate Inzektor Centipide’s effect.
With Inzektor Centipied’s effect Dustin searches Inzektor
Hornet, and adds it to his hand. He then Flip Summons his set monster, Spirit
Reaper.
Proceding to Overlay both Spirit Reaper and Inzektor
Centipide, he Xyz Summons Wind-Up Zenmaines in Attack Position. He goes to Enter
the Battle Phase, however he is reminded by Corey that he cannot attack with
Wind-Up Zenmaines since he activated the effect of Inzektor Hopper this turn.
Dustin puts down a Spell or Trap Card and ends his turn.
Corey draws his card, and passes the turn back to Dustin.
Dustin summons Inzektor Dragonfly, and activates it’s effect
to attach Inzektor Hornet from his hand.
Once resolved, once again Corey is ready with Effect Veiler,
and activates it, targeting Inzektor Dragonfly, making Hornet fall off.
Dustin continues, and enters his Battle Phase. He hash is
Wind-Up Zenmaines attack Corey’s Set monster, which is revealed to by Ryko,
Lightsworn Hunter.
Corey uses Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter’s Effect to target Dustin’s
Inzektor Dragonfly, destroying it. He then sends the top three cards from his
deck to the graveyard: Another Ryko The Lightsworn Hunter, Tragodia, and a Darkflare
Dragon.
Dustin passes his turn after losing his Dragonfly.
Corey starts his turn off with his Heavy Storm! Dustin
responds with his set Threatening Roar, but loses his bluffed Heavy Storm.
Corey banishes his Effect Veiler and Sangan to Special
Summon Light Pulsar Dragon from his hand. He then passes his turn.
Dustin starts his turn, and Summons Inzektor Centipied, and
activates his effect. Corey chains a D.D. Crow in his hand, targeting the
Inzektor Hornet in Dustin’s Graveyard. With Hornet gone, Dustin chooses the
next best option, and equips Inzektor Centipede with Inzektor Hopper.
Next he uses Inzektor Hopper’s effect, sending it to the
graveyard to allow Inzektor Centipede to attack directly this turn! Using
Hopper’s effect, Dustin adds Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber from his deck to his
hand.
Dustin equips Inzektor Centipede with Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber,
increasing its Attack Power to 2400, and proceeds to attack Corey directly.
Life Points: Corey: 5600/Dustin: 8000
Dustin proceeds to attack with Wind-Up Zenmaines, to attack
into Light Pulsar Dragon, however is reminded of Inzektor Hopper’s effect, and
ends his turn, leaving Wind-Up Zenmaines in attack position.
Corey starts his turn, and immediately enters his Battle
Phase, having Light Pulsar Dragon attack into Inzektor Centipede, sending it to
the Graveyard.
Life Points: Dustin: 7900/Corey: 5600
With Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber sent to the graveyard,
Dustin activates its effect, to add Inzektor Dragonfly back to his hand.
Corey sets a card face-down, and passes his turn.
Dustin starts his turn off by summoning Tour Guide from the
Underworld! Corey discards a Maxx “C” from his hand. Dustin Special Summons
another Tour Guide From the Underworld from his deck, and overlays the two into
Leviar The Sea Dragon in defense position, allowing Corey to draw 2 cards from
the effect of Maxx “C.”
Dustin uses the effect of Leviar The Sea Dragon, detaching
one of the Tour Guides to Special Summon the Inzektor Hornet that was Banished
by D.D. Crow in Defense mode, while Corey draws another card from Maxx “C.”
Dustin sets a card to his back row, and ends his turn, not
being able to get over Light Pulsar Dragon.
During the End phase, Corey responds with his set card,
Mystical Space Typhoon, which destroys Dustin’s Call of The Haunted.
Corey was able to draw three additional cards off of Dustin’s
Special Summons, while Dustin was unable to even inflict damage this turn,
giving Corey a new advantage in the turns to come.
Corey begins his fifth turn by banishing Ryko the Lightsworn
Hunter and D.D. Crow from his graveyard to Special Summon Black Luster Solider –
Envoy of The Beginning.
He uses Black Luster Soldier’s Effect to banish Wind-Up
Zenmaines, and then has Light Pulsar Dragon attack over Leviar the Sea Dragon.
Corey sets a card to his back row and ends his turn.
Dustin draws from his deck, and Normal Summons Inzektor
Dragonfly from his hand. He activates it’s effect to attach it with Inzektor
Hopper.
Next he activates Inzektor Hopper’s effect to allowed
Inzektor Dragonfly to attack directly. Corey chains a second Maxx “C” to its
effect, and Inzektor Dragonfly’s effect activates, allowing Dustin to Special
Summon Inzektor Centipede from his deck. Corey draws a card from his deck.
Dustin next Overlays Inzektor Hornet and Inzektor Dragonfly to
Xyz Summon Number 17: Leviathan Dragon. This allows Corey to draw another card
from his deck. He then detaches Inzektor Hornet in order to increase its attack
power by 500.
Next Dustin activates the effect of Inzektor Centipede,
equipping it with Inzektor Hornet. He activates the effect of Inzektor Hornet,
targeting Black Luster Solider – Envoy of The Beginning. Using the effect of
Inzektor Centipede, Dustin adds Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber to his hand.
Next he activates Monster Reborn. He chooses to revive Black
Luster Solider – Envoy of The Beginning to his side of the field. This allows
Corey to draw another card for the effect of Maxx “C.” Dustin uses Black Luster
Solider’s effect to target Light Pulsar Dragon, and banish it.
Since he cannot attack due to the effect of Inzektor Hopper,
he passes his turn.
Corey begins his sixth turn by summoning Eclipse Wyvern from
his hand. He then banishes it to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon
from his hand.
Using Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon’s effect, he special
summons a Light Pulsar Dragon from his hand.
He has his Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon attack Dustin’s
Number 17: Leviathan Dragon, inflicting 300 points of Damage to Dustin’s Life
Points.
Life Points: Corey: 5600/Dustin: 7600
Corey has Light Pulsar Dragon attack Black Luster Solider,
and responds to his own attack with Forbidden Lance, targeting Black Luster
Solider – Envoy of The Beginning, lowering it’s attack to 2200, small enough
for Light Pulsar Dragon to destroy.
Life Points: Corey: 5600/Dustin: 7300
Corey ends his turn with the attack, and passes play to
Dustin.
Dustin uses Inzektor Centipede’s Effect, and Corey chains
D.D. Crow, to once again banish Inzektor Hornet from Dustin’s graveyard. Dustin
attaches Inzektor Hopper instead of the originally desired Inzektor Hornet.
He continues by activating Inzektor Hopper’s effect,
allowing Inzektor Centipede to attack directly this turn, and allowing Dustin
to add his Inzektor Giga-Mantis to his hand from his deck.
He next activates the effect of Inzektor Giga-Mantis to
equip it to Inzektor Centipede, making it’s original attack go from 1600 to
2400, and with the attack bonus of Inzektor Sword – Zektkaliber, giving it
3200.
With the effect of Inzektor Hopper, Dustin has Inzektor
Centipede attack directly.
Life Points: Dustin: 7300/Corey: 2400
Dustin passes turn over to Corey.
Corey starts his turn by using Red-Eyes Darkness Metal
Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Darkflare Dragon from his graveyard.
Next he summons Lyla The Lightsworn Sorceress from his hand,
and moves on to the Battle Phase.
He has Light Pulsar Dragon attack Inzektor Centipede, and
during the Damage Step, discards Honest from his hand to increase the attack of
Light Pulsar Dragon to 5700 once again.
Life Points: Dustin: 4800/Corey: 2400
Next Dustin takes on the wall of Darkflare Dragon, Lyla
Lightsworn Sorceress and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, enough to reduce his
life points to zero.
After three long games, Corey is able to claim victory in
the first round of the Championship Tournament, and move on to the next round
where he will face the winner between Sheldon Spaulding and Leonard Ludwig!
